Her father is a washrag man defending a black man by the diametricaliate of Tom Robinson who is accused of raping a white girl. racism plays a huge factor on the lives of these characters living in the town of Maycome. For the African Americans living in Maycome county it was much different then the whites. Black and whites w ere completely segregated. The African Americans lived in the outskirts of the town called the the quarter, they had their own balcony in the courthouse called the colored balcony , they had different schools as rise as churches.

The white people didnt very realise a lot of regard as of the coloured and the first time I really began to notice and happen the lack of respect was when aunty Alexandra who is Atticus sister was introduced in the novel.
